Fed up with Windoze ? Tired of the contious hordes of
viruses, worms, bugs, forced upgrades and general CRAP
experience of Windoze ? Well there is an answer !!! It takes a lot of reading and a spot of thinking to get started (at least for those of us with ingrained Windoze habits ;) but once you get started there's simply no comparison. Slackware Linux is wonderful, an infinitely superior operating system for your computer. Not only that but it plays nicely on older hardware too :) Since my home server got slack it's never been so happy ! Linux for the SubGenius (tm) indeed ! |
|
Or if Slackware seems a bit difficult then for the most painless introduction to Linux try Ubuntu Linux. Based on Debian it's simply the most user friendly Linux yet.
As for web browsing there's simply no excuse for using a Microsoft browser. For a better experience try either Mozilla Firefox or Opera instead. Personally I use Firefox mainly due to the fact that it's not only available for several operating systems (such as Windows, *Nix etc.) but also for the amount of excellent plugins available which include features such as:

Bored to death with cretins sending you spam ? I know
I was until I installed POPFILE.
A simply marvellous tool. If you've got an email account
you should have a look at this. And if you're running a home server then you should also take a look at tools like Spam Assasin as well. |
|
If you're running a Windoze computer then you simply must have antivirus software. If you're running Windoze XP
(bleh) then if you're not running Anti Virus software
then, as far as the Temple of Din is concerned, then you
shouldn't even be allowed to connect to the web. I'm
throughly bored with you lamers letting your boxes be
used as spam zombies DDOS zombies etc. etc. So stop messing around and download the wonderful AVG Anti Virus. It's completely FREE and does the job beautifully. |
|
On a similar note then you should also run a serious firewall. Yes I know Windoze XP comes with a built in firewall but, well, it just doesn't appear to be very good )if the forums are correct then it alows all outgoing connections(not being a user of Windows XP I can't personally comment). So stop messing around and download Zone Alarm today ! (n.b. there is a free version on the site it's just well hidden ;)
Well, if you're anything like the ÜberPope then
you'll be reasonably new to this new fangled HTML lark. A
quick way to get up and running is to visit pageresource.com
where you'll find some detailed explanations of how to
use HTML, simple Java script etc. There are even plenty
of examples so you can cut and paste them into your own
pages and modify things as you go along. |
|
Need some updated device drivers ? or howabout some
useful utilities ? Pop on over to Winfiles.com
for a whole heapin' helpin' of computer related stuff -
available in Winders 95, 98 and even good old Apple
Slackintosh flavours. (I wish the Temple could afford a
G3 Apple MAC, grumble, mumble - then I wouldn't have to
spend half my time fixing the binary nuisance engine...) |
|
Need some new fonts ? I've always found Larabie
fonts to be full of good swag - I'd use some
of their offerings in the Temple but they wouldn't show
up unless you had them too.... |
|
The Temple of Din submitted itself to a multitude of search engines by using ADDME. Submit your page to 34 popular sites for free ! (n.b. don't bother with G.O.D as it takes forever)
And if you'd like to make a nice "favicon" for your web page then I'd recommend a visit to The HTML Toolkit Favicon Page. And whilst you're there do take a look at their excellent HTML editor ! |
